Downtown Residents Live Amongst Art and History at The Brentwood

There’s nothing like a day spent in the heart of downtown Springfield. Whether it’s enjoying a Saturday browsing boutiques or indulging in the local flavors with a friend at your favorite restaurant, there’s truly something for everyone in the city.

Residents of the lofts at The Brentwood live in the midst of the action, nestled perfectly next to some of the best venues Springfield has to offer. The history and location of The Brentwood make it a great choice for any downtown dweller.

Interested in learning more about The Brentwood? Let’s learn how this building got its start.

A picture-perfect history

Records show that The Brentwood has been standing for over a century, built in 1905. Originally a two story building, it was replaced with its current five stories. The building is a close neighbor to fellow loft residents over at The Seville, separated only by an art gallery.

Before becoming lofts, the building was once the Ozark Camera Building, a downtown destination for anyone needing a camera or photo supplies. Its history led to it being included in the South Avenue Commercial Historic District, along with The Seville and other famed downtown buildings.

Though not a retail building anymore, some of its history remains with a usable retail space on the bottom floor of The Brentwood.
